Membership Information Page
Welcome to the City of Greater Geelong Toastmaster club.
We are part of an international organization that span across more than 80 countries around the world. Hosted once a month, our meetings encourage participation by all, and follow a proven structure that promotes better listening, thinking and speaking.
Hailing from all walks of life, our members bring together a wide range of experiences that enrich our club. We invite you to become a part of this network; to teach and learn, and uncover the life and leadership skills that you have within yourself.
So how does Toastmasters work?
Run every month, our meetings follow a program where members learn to introduce speakers, conduct meetings and perform a number of other roles that develop skills in communication. Members are assigned one or more roles on any given night, which are laid out in advance.
Each role offers its own challenge, and the roles rotate - so that everybody gets a go.
Impromptu speaking:
Randomly selected, members and guests (with permission) are challenged to 'think on our feet' on topics that are determined by the Table Topics Master. This provides members with minor speaking roles.
Educational sessions:
An experienced member delivers a lively presentation on one aspect of communication.
Prepared speeches:
For each meeting, three or four members will deliver speeches prepared to set criteria from the Toastmasters training program, on topics of our choice. Speech by speech, our members build new skills and learn as we progress.
Evaluation:
Everything within toastmasters is evaluated. Members deliver and receive constructive feedback in a manner that is effective and encouraging. As speakers, we discover the challenges and strengths in the way we present. As evaluators, we develop skills in observation, diplomacy and self-assertion.
